THE CLIENT IS NOT A TRANSACTION\u003c\/h1\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhen someone walks into a luxury environment, they are bringing more than a wallet.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThey are bringing their personality.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTheir lifestyle.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTheir experiences.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTheir preferences.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTheir concerns.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTheir expectations.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSometimes even their insecurities.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAnd you don't know any of that when they first walk through the door.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThat's why I don't believe in treating every client the same.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYou should have a consistent standard of service.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBut you should not have a robotic sales process.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eEvery client deserves a personalized conversation.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003chr\u003e\n\u003ch1\u003e2. THE FIRST 60 SECONDS\u003c\/h1\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe first minute can tell you a lot.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eNot because you are trying to judge the client.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYou are observing.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHow do they enter?\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAre they looking around?\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDo they already know what they want?\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAre they asking questions?\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAre they quiet?\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAre they excited?\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAre they comparing products?\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAre they with someone else?\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAre they in a hurry?\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYour first objective is not to close.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYour first objective is to understand the situation.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eI call this:\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003ch1\u003eOBSERVE BEFORE YOU ADVISE.\u003c\/h1\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDon't rush to fill the silence.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eGive the client a moment.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWatch.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eListen.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThen engage.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003chr\u003e\n\u003ch1\u003e3. LIFESTYLE\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eHow will they use it?\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is one of my favorite questions.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBecause a product can look perfect in a showroom and be completely wrong for someone's lifestyle.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAsk yourself:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhere will they use it?\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHow often?\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat do they normally wear?\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat environments are they in?\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat does their lifestyle require?\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe more you understand the lifestyle, the more relevant your recommendation becomes.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003chr\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003e4. MOTIVATION\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWhy does it matter to them?\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is deeper.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA client may say:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\"I want a new watch.\"\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBut why?\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMaybe it's a birthday.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMaybe it's a promotion.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMaybe they want to celebrate a personal achievement.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMaybe they are building a collection.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMaybe they simply want something special.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe product may be the same.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe emotional reason can be completely different.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003chr\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003e5. EXPECTATION\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWhat does a successful purchase look like to this person?\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is where many salespeople fail.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThey assume they know what the client wants.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDon't assume.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAsk.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSome clients want the best value.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSome want exclusivity.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSome want convenience.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSome want education.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSome want recognition.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSome want privacy.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSome want someone to make the process easy.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYour job is to discover which experience they expect.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003chr\u003e\n\u003ch1\u003e4. NEVER MAKE THE CLIENT FEEL STUPID\u003c\/h1\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is extremely important in luxury.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eNever make someone feel uncomfortable because they don't know something.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA client may not know the difference between two materials.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThey may not understand a technical specification.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThey may pronounce a brand incorrectly.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThey may ask a question you think is obvious.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYour response should never communicate:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\"You should already know this.\"\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eInstead:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\"Let me explain the difference.\"\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEducation creates confidence.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAnd confidence creates trust.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003chr\u003e\n\u003ch1\u003e8. THE THREE LEVELS OF CLIENT KNOWLEDGE\u003c\/h1\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI want you to think about every client at three levels.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eLEVEL 1 — WHAT THEY SAY\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat are they asking for?\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat product do they mention?\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat price do they mention?\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat features do they ask about?\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003chr\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eLEVEL 2 — WHAT THEY WANT\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat preference is behind the request?\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat problem are they trying to solve?\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat experience are they looking for?\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003chr\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eLEVEL 3 — WHY IT MATTERS\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat is the emotional or personal reason?\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat does this purchase represent?\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThat third level is where relationships become much stronger.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYou don't always need to discover it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBut when the client shares it with you, pay attention.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003chr\u003e\n\u003ch1\u003e10. THE GOLDEN RULE\u003c\/h1\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHere's the rule I want you to remember:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch1\u003eDON'T SELL THE PRODUCT YOU WANT TO SELL.\u003c\/h1\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eSELL THE SOLUTION THE CLIENT NEEDS.\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThat sounds simple.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBut it requires discipline.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBecause sometimes the product you personally like isn't the right product for the client.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSometimes the more expensive option isn't the right option.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSometimes the famous brand isn't the right brand.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSometimes the answer is:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\"I don't think that's the best option for you.\"\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAnd believe it or not, that can create more trust than making the sale.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhen the client realizes you are willing to protect their interest, you become an advisor.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eNot just a salesperson.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003chr\u003e\n\u003ch1\u003e11.
